Charles Bridge

The Giant Metronome overlooks the Vltava River and the city center of Prague. It was erected in 1991, and stands on the plinth left vacant by the destruction of an enormous monument to former Soviet leader Josef Stalin (the monument was destroyed in 1962). It was designed by international artist Vratislav Novak.

He set himself on fire at Wenceslas Square (Václavské námestí) on January 1969.

The tower is only around 200 feet high but is situated on Petrin Hill which is 1,043 feet high and can be reached on foot or via a funicular railway.
